DIMA is the industry representative body for international insurance and reinsurance companies, insurance and reinsurance captives, and captive management companies, established in Ireland. The association – its full name is the Dublin International Insurance & Management Association – was set up in 1990, initially to represent captive managers, who formed the first wave of Ireland’s international re/insurance sector.
Over the intervening years, DIMA’s remit has grown as the different types of re/insurance business operating out of Ireland has widened, and we now count almost all types of international business among our member numbers.
DIMA acts as the representative body for its members, and currently there are 60 different companies within the DIMA membership. The association engages with the Irish and European authorities on a regular basis, representing the interests of its members, at the same time promoting high business and ethical standards within the Irish international re/insurance community.
Alongside a full-time CEO and Communications and Support Executive, the DIMA board of directors, elected from senior representatives of member companies, represent a cross-section of the different types of international re/insurance entities operating in Ireland. The DIMA board meets regularly, and its work is supported by a system of sub-committees focussed on specific business sectors.
DIMA also hosts a successful educational programme. The Insurance Institute of Ireland administers DIMA’s professional education and training initiatives, and DIMA runs workshops and briefings for its members on issues of market interest. In addition, DIMA has close links with the University of Limerick, in particular the risk management programme, and sponsors an annual essay award for undergraduates.
